Gifts sent to you over nostr are sealed to your nostr key, so only your own nsec can fetch them. A key here is tried when claiming too. It empties once read, and is forgotten when you leave the page.
A NIP-61 gift is locked to a key your nostr wallet holds, which your extension unlocks without you typing anything. That key claims a gift, but it cannot fetch one.

About this tool
Cashu Gift lets you gift ecash using a locked mint quote. You simply pay a Lightning invoice to fund the quote, and only the key holder it is locked to can mint the ecash. This makes both the invoice and the claim link safe to send by ordinary means: only the intended recipient can mint it.
Your recipient claims with their Nostr extension when the gift is locked to their NIP-61 nutzap key, or with the key it names. Send it to them over nostr as a sealed message, or pass on the claim link yourself.
Cashu Gift vs Cashu NutLock
Use Gift when you are starting from Lightning rather than ecash you already hold: locking a token means minting it first and then swapping it to their key, which costs a swap fee and leaves you holding the proofs until they take them.
A gift mints nothing until they claim, so there is no token to keep safe in the meantime. Use Cashu NutLock instead when you already hold the ecash, or when you want conditions on it such as a refund date or several signatures.
